Walking/Hiking

The OC&E Woods Line State Trail is perfect for walking and hiking.

Paved Section: The trail currently is paved for 8 miles .
The trail passes by local shops, parks, schools and residential areas. Please remember keep to the
right while walking and be alert for passing cyclists, joggers and rollerbladers.

Non Paved Section: Beyond Mp 8.25 (Olene) The trail surface has had the railroad ballast
graded off and then compacted. This section is also great for walking and hiking, but there is no
water along the trail until MP ~40 (along the Sprague River) and sporadically until ~MP 56.5 (all
water must be filtered). On the Woods Line Branch of the trail water is accessible from MP 10.5
~ MP 15 (along 5 Mile Creek) and again all water must be filtered.

Jogging/Running

The OC&E Woods Line State Trail is also suited for jogger. There is a wood chip side trail from
MP 1.25 - 4.5 for those that prefer a softer running surface. For your safety, it is recommended
that headphones or earphones not be worn or that they be kept at a low volume while jogging on
the trail.

Bicycling

Since the trail is an old railway the grade is very gentle (2.1% is the maximum grade). You can
use the OC&E as an out and back ride or part of a circuit ride. See Parking Access Along the
Trail for suggestions on places to park to begin your journey. Also use the trail map to find
connections other trails, bike lanes and suitable low traffic roads.

Just to be safe please wear your bike helmet when riding. Since much of the trail is in remote
areas please carry plenty of water and tools for repairs.

The OC&E is a multi-use trail. Ride at a safe speed and give an audible warning when passing
(example "Passing on your Left"). As a bicyclist you must yield to pedestrians and horses.

Inline Skating

A perfect way to enjoy the paved section of the trail is inline skating or rollerblading. The trail
grade is very gentle a thus very suitable to inline skating. Skaters should remember to wear
helmets and elbow and knee padding. Skaters like all other trail users should stay on the right
side of the Trail, and give an sudible warning when passing pedestrians and other users. Due to
the trail being narrow and heavy use ski poles are not recommended.

Horseback riding

Equestrians are welcome on all sections of the trail. The first 3.3 miles of trail have a wood chip
side path for horses and joggers. For additional information see getting along with horses on the
OC&E Woods Line State Trail.

It is hoped that eventually a separate equestrian path will be created through much of the trail.

See Parking Access Along the Trail for suggestions on places to park to start enjoying the trail.
